Vice Provost for Digital Education (VPDE)

VPDE Mission

The Vice Provost for Digital Education improves Army readiness by providing rigorous, relevant, and tailored distributed training and education to Soldiers, Leaders, and Army Civilians at the point of need from a responsive and accessible delivery capability.​

Key Functions

Manage governance, plans, and policies for the Army’s distributed learning (DL) program; Manage the Army’s centralized contract for distributed learning products; Conduct research to develop/update the Army’s DL content technical standards/ specifications; and integrate new learning DL technologies; Partner with Joint Knowledge Online and other Services to synchronize DL initiatives and provide Soldiers' access to Joint DL; Manage mobile learning initiatives to include mobile apps and interactive digital publications for the Army. SPP Mission

Manage governance, plans, and policies for the Army’s DL program (DoDI 1322.26 & AR 350-1, Chapter 8)​

Key Functions

  • Manage TADLP & Mobile Learning (ML) Plans & Policy​
  • Develop program overview, governance, plans, and policies to include new trends and concepts under Army Warfighting Challenges​
  • Provide centralized management for DL modernization & on-line exam security policy​
  • Plan/conduct DL Program Management Reviews in preparation for CoC ​
  • Improve DL STRATCOMs​
  • Support TRADOC directed QA program​
  • Develop DL nomination list​
  • Publish the DL Star​

Content Acquisition & Management

CA&M Mission

Manage the Army’s centralized contract for distributed learning products (DoDI 1322.26 & AR 350-1, Chap 8)​​

Key Functions

  • Manage TADLP Content Acquisition & Management​​
  • Prioritize, track, & report DL courseware development to ensure courseware is developed to standard and fielded IAW established milestones​​
  • Support DL Registrations by providing cost estimates; produce execution plans for task order development​
  • Execute DL task orders in support of proponents. ​​
  • Consult with proponents on instructional designs​

Courseware Standards and Specifications

CSS Mission

Manage/conduct research to develop & update the Army’s DL content technical standards/ specifications; and integrate new learning DL technologies (DoDI 1322.26 & AR 350-1, Chapter 8)​​​

Key Functions

  • Conduct research to develop/update Army DL content technical standards/ specifications; and integrate new learning technologies ​​​
  • Manage DL DART team in diagnosis/resolution of complex DL issues​
  • Conduct DL CW/ product government acceptance review​​

Mobile Learning

ML Mission

Manage the Army-wide process for the development, management, registration and hosting of mobile learning products (AR 350-1, Chapter 8)​​​

Key Functions

  • Serve as TRADOC lead to provide direction and address complex issues surrounding implementation of ML initiatives​​​​
  • Serves as TRADOC lead for Interactive Digital Publications​​
  • Develop ML content for mobile apps, & IDPs​
  • Conduct ML government technical acceptance testing for IDPs​
  • Execute rapid mobile app contract in support of proponents​ ​​​

Joint Distributed Learning

JDL Mission

Partner with Joint Knowledge Online and other Services to synchronize DL initiatives and provide Soldiers’ access to Joint DL (DoDI 1322.26 & AR 350-1, Chap. 8)​ ​​​​

Key Functions

  • Integrate Joint DL Capabilities​
  • Leverage Joint DL courseware and ML content for Soldiers’ access and training​
  • Partner w/JKO to improve Joint & Army DL training and education
  • Serve as Joint Mobile Integration Chief to all Services​
  • Serve as TADLP rep to DoD Advanced DL Initiative (ADL) and Defense Advanced Distributed Learning Advisory Committee (DADLAC)​​
