Course Information: To train and certify Active Army, National Guard and Reserve Cyber Operations Technicians from grades W2-W5 to supervise and manage the execution of Cyberspace Defense; Cyberspace Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR); Cyberspace Operational Preparation of the Environment (OPE); and Cyberspace Attack actions. They direct, plan, administer, manage, and integrate actions in support of offensive and defensive cyberspace operations. This is a Temporary Duty (TDY) course for Active Army, Reserve and National Guard Soldier's. Course focus is cyber application: Advanced Digital Forensics and Incident Response; Advanced Network Forensics and Analysis; Advanced Penetration Testing, Exploit Writing, and Ethical Hacking; Joint Cyberspace Operations Planners Course (JCOPC); Technical Leadership (Mission Commander); and a Cyberspace Response Assessment.

Scope: The Cyber Operations Technicians will manage the training of personnel on the planning, administrating, managing, maintaining, integrating, and operating in specified operational environment. They develop policy recommendations and provide technical guidance and advice to commanders and staffs on the management and operation of Army, Joint, intergovernmental, interagency, and multinational implications and applications of offensive and defensive cyberspace operations. They provide technical expertise to integrate cyberspace operations with war fighting functions. The course will consist of training the student in the following subject areas: Critical Thinking Methodologies, Emerging Technology, Joint Operations, Army Operations, Management Processes, Cyberspace Policies/Strategies, and Case Studies of CNA/OCO/DCO/cyberspace current events The Cyber Operations Technicians provide many of the same functions as the Cyber Operations Officers except command of units. Cyber Operations Technicians perform the following functions/tasks: (1) Advise commanders on the availability and employment of capabilities. (2) Maintain and assist in development of the staff estimate. (3) Determine Cyberspace Defense; Cyberspace Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR); Cyberspace Operational Preparation of the Environment (OPE); and Cyberspace Attack actions. (4) Assist in the de-confliction and synchronization of cyberspace operations. (5) Assist the Cyber Operations Officer and staff in the analysis of the relevant/current situation and predict operational requirements. (6) Coordinate external support for cyber operation mission requirements and integrate effects into planning/targeting processes.(7) Conduct assessments in support of defensive and offensive cyberspace operations. (8) Support 170A functions with technical and tactical expertise. (9) Develop and mentor all Cyber Operations Specialists. Course Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, the MOS 170A Warrant Officer will be a professional Officer of character and presence capable of providing direct leadership for the Army. The Soldier will apply the leadership and skills necessary to effectively train and lead cyber operations personnel in defending cyber networks, by performing threat management of new and existing networks and performing network forensic operations after a network intrusion.
