Course Information: The purpose of this course is to provide Army Civilians with an orientation to the US Army and begin the development of being an effective Army Team member.

Scope: The CES Foundation Course is a Level 1 Civilian Education System course providing an orientation and foundation for all newly hired Army Civilians regardless of grade, occupation, or job series. This course prepares students to understand their role as Army Civilians and their responsibilities as an Army professional. The course provides students foundational knowledge about the structure and culture of the Army and focuses on the attributes and competencies vital to all Army leaders. Key concepts in this level are self-leadership as an Army professional, characteristics of the Army profession, Army leadership doctrine, Army ethical standards, critical, creative thinking and problem solving methods, flexibility, resilience, career progression and the program and services offered to self-develop. The CES Foundation Course is necessary to provide the foundation and set the conditions for learning within all subsequent civilian professional education.
