CSM Porras is a native of Tampa, Florida. He began his career in the U.S. Army in March 1997 as a Human Resources Specialist. He completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Jackson, following Advanced Individual Training, he attended US Army Airborne School at Fort Moore, Georgia enroute to his first duty station.

CSM Porras’ previous assignments include Administrative Specialist, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment; Executive Administrative Assistant, 82d Airborne Division Headquarters; Personnel Services Sergeant, 1st Battalion 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne); Human Resources Sergeant, Washington D.C.; Chief Manpower Support Branch, US Pacific Command; Operations NCOIC, US Pacific Command; Senior Human Resources Sergeant, 1/8 Infantry Battalion, 3/4 Infantry Division; Operations Sergeant, 3BSTB, 3/4 Infantry Division; First Sergeant of the Fitness Training Company; Operations Sergeant Major, 171st Infantry Brigade; Non-Resident Instructor, U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy; Battalion Command Sergeant Major, 1st Armor Division Special Troops Battalion; Operations Sergeant Major, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Directorate; and currently as the Commandant of the Sergeant First Class Christopher R. Brevard Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Alaska.

CSM Porras’ deployments include two tours of duty to Iraq and one deployment to Afghanistan. His military education includes, Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leader’s Course, Senior Leader Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Battalion/ Brigade Pre-Command Course, Faculty Development Course, Battle Staff Non-Commissioned Officer’s Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School, US Army Pathfinder’s Course, Jumpmaster Course, and the Army Master Fitness Trainer Course. CSM Porras holds a Master’s Degree in Communication and Leadership from Park University.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2 oak leave cluster), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (2 oak leave cluster), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (4 oak leaf clusters), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (3 oak leave clusters), Good Conduct Medal (seventh award), the National Defense Service ribbon, the Iraq Campaign Medal (2 bronze campaign stars), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development ribbon (numeral “5”), the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (numeral “4”), two Joint Meritorious Unit Awards, one Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Arctic Tab, the Senior Parachutists Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, and the French Parachutists Badge.

CSM Porras is married to Tasa Porras (also in the Army), they have six children.
